Facebook advertising has exploded, especially after Facebook went public. At that point, the powers at Facebook knew it was important to ramp up the money-making machine. They did!
Their advertising platform was clunky and targeting was okay prior to going public. Now it’s still a challenge to use, but the targeting is phenomenal. You can reach an enormous amount of people quickly.
The biggest mistake is to hire someone to run your Facebook ads because they know how to run your Google PPC ads. Here’s the problem with that:
- The functionality is different.
- The ads need to be written and crafted in a more social manner.
- The targeting is unique. It’s more like direct mail and big data than it is like Google PPC.
Knowing your “ideal” customer is more important on the Facebook advertising platform than on Google. On Google Search, potential customers identify themselves based on any keywords they type, such as “used car dealer.”
On Facebook you are reaching out to them. More effective advertising needs to be highly targeted.
